Fourth Season Opener

47 junior bowlers competed in our fourth season opener on a modified Shark pattern at Lang's AMF in Cranston, RI, on September 7th. Four bowlers averaged 200+ for the six games of qualifying: Alex Weglarz (NY) 1231, Shane Reid (CT) 1228, Michael Leyva (CT) 1209, and Ryan Evans (MA) 1207. The 258 high game was rolled by Chris Colella (MA)

Bryan Bourget (RI), pictured on the right, won the gold medal. Noah Frankforter (CT), who left before getting his picture taken, took the silver medal. Dakota Fleury (VT), pictured  to the left, won the bronze medal.

In the Junior Boys Division (ages 12-14) competing in his first NeJST event Qwadaris Renbert (RI), above right, won the gold medal. Nicholas Sauve (MA), above center, took the silver medal. Bobby Pacuk (MA), above left, finished with the bronze medal.

This year the girls and junior girls divisions have been merged. If this event was any indicator it looks as though the competition may have brought out the best in all. 12-year-old Jackie Evans, just out of the Prep Division, began the qualifying with a 214 personal high game. She missed the cut for step-ladder finals by five (5) pins. Other 12 year olds, in their first competition against the "older" girls were Jadee Scott-Jones (RI) and Gazmine Mason (RI) who qualified 5th and 4th respectively. Jadee, pictured above center, won the silver medal running the ladder defeating Gazmine,  Tori Whetstone (RI), and Nicole Trudell (RI) (above left, bronze medalist), only to fall to Alley Kiesman (MA), above right, in the title match.
Mike Leyva, on the right, qualified first in the Major Boys Division and won the gold medal by defeating Chris Colella, on the left, in the final step-ladder match. Jason Norman (MA) in his NeJST debut finished with the bronze medal.
In the Collegiate Boys Division, Alex Weglarz, above right, won the gold. Shane Reid, above center, won the silver medal. Ryan Evans took the bronze medal.

Shane Reid, Nicole Trudell, and Alex Weglarz were the advancers in the Jr Gold Qualifier. Jason Brunelle won the Shoot Out. Several bowlers hit the mystery score (154 this week) but weren't playing the game, thus the Mystery Score Jackpot increases again.
Our second tournament will be held Sept. 21st at Town Line Ten-Pin, Malden, MA.
