Championship Tournament

Our first Championship Tournament will be held the last week-end in June, 2006, at Shaker Bowl, 168 Shaker Rd, East Longmeadow, MA. 413-525-7198. Owned by Bowl New England, it is a 28 lane house with synthetic heads and wood back ends.

Shaker is relatively central to our entire area and, as far as I know, is not "home" to any of our bowlers so at the moment is "neutral territory".

Several of you have already qualified for this tournament. To compete for our scholarship money a bowler must enter at least seven of our 22 tournaments. The March 5th event is the last a bowler may begin bowling with us and still be able to qualify for this year's Championship.

Some Current Statistics

We've now finished 9 of our 22 tournaments. The last event at Town Line Ten-Pin, Malden, MA had the largest field this season - 52 bowlers. Again every state in our northeast region was represented. To date:

The Collegiate Boys Division has had 27 entrants. High qualifying game (279) and series (1477) belong to Ali Dihmes, Bridgeport, CT. High average (with minimum of 18 games) on the sport conditions 0f 209 belongs to Matt Deuire, Kingston, NY. High average of 210 on house conditions is shared by Dion Baker and Brandon Medina, both of Providence, RI.

The Girls Division has had 16 entrants. High qualifying game (257) was rolled by Amie Tomblin, Milford, NH. High qualifying series (1300) and average on sport condition (186) are Caitlin McCaw's, W. Hartford, CT. Alexandra Kiesman, Attleboro, MA, has high average of 200 on house condition.

The Junior Boys Division has had 24 entrants. The 242 high game was rolled by Ken Sweet, Portland, ME. The 1172 high series belongs to David Lewis, Warwick, RI, as does high house average of 184. Stephen Rogers, Poughkeepsie, NY, holds the high sport average of 166.

The Junior Girls Division has had 8 entrants. This division is being dominated by Ashley Reid, Enfield, CT, with the following: high game (228), high series (804), high sport average (146), and high house average (158).

The Major Boys Division has seen 49 competitors. A 290 high game was rolled by Ryan Evans, Acton, MA. High series of 1294 belongs to Shane Reid, Enfield, CT. High sport average of 203 is Connor LeClair's, Athens, NY. Ryan Evans has a high house average of 200.

And the Prep Boys/Girls Division as had 11 entrants. High game (171), high series (836), and high house average (137) have been attained by Jadee Scott-Jones, Riverside, RI. High sport average of 157 belongs to Taylor LeClair, Athens, NY

A Snowy Eighth Tournament

Those who braved the snowy conditions found a tough lane condition at Laurel Lanes in Plainville, CT. This past Sunday 27 bowlers averaged 167.53 during qualifying. 20 200 games were rolled in qualifying. Four bowlers went plus with Tony Bennett, Worcester MA, the highest qualifier with 1260.

Step-ladder finals saw another 10 200 games - Tony Bennett won the Collegiate Division with a nice 265 to finish ahead of Dan "P.I.A." Quesnell, Kingston, NY. The Girls Division final match was close with Caitlin McCaw, W. Hartford, CT, edging out Alexandra Kiesman, Attleboro, MA, for the win 230-228. Joey Baral, S. Windsor, CT, in his first appearance with us this season, triumphed over Jimmy Stenson, Kingston, NY, 201-177 for the Major Boys Division Gold. Stephen Rogers, Poughkeepsie, NY, held on to the Junior Boys Division first place despite the valiant effort of Robbie Baral who had run the ladder from 5th place to challenge him.

Ashley Reid and Brittany Reid, both of Enfield, CT, won Golds in the Junior Girls and Prep Divisions, respectively.

Alexandra Kiesman and Jimmy Stenson qualified for the Jr Gold Championship in July.

We now have our first qualifiers for our Championship Tournament to held the last weekend in June. Having attended seven events are: Ashley Reid (Jr Girls), Shane Reid (Major Boys), and Kyle Shivers (Collegiate Boys).

Catskill Hoe Bowl - 5th tournament of the year

This was our first tournament at this center. 24 wood lanes...lane condition was termed "Adult Scratch League"...in terms of difficulty I'd say it falls somewhere between a true sport shot and a normal house shot. I think the field averages substantiate this.

High qualifier for the day was Caitlin McCaw, CT, with 1300.

High game during qualifying was 249...rolled by Matt Deuire, NY. During finals Connor LeClair, NY, ran the ladder in the Major Boys Division finishing up with games of 266 and 268.

Rosanne Jansen, NY, also ran the ladder to garner her first win in the Girls Division.

Scholarship Fund

We need to think about our scholarship fund from the outset. At the moment, we are the only "sponsors" of our tour. Any ideas for raising funds for the Championship will be greatly appreciated.

I had asked, on the message board, for everyone to vote on whether or not to have membership fees for the Tour. The poll was to vote for $10 dues, $15, other amount, or none. So far there has been 63 views of the poll but only a whopping 3 votes!

We will be selling Tournament Record score books. The printing is being donated by EPS Printing in S. Windsor. All net proceeds will go directly to the Scholarship Fund.

Let's hear some ideas.....

Rules updated

1. Instead of individual scorecards, we are going to use 1 scoresheet for each pair of lanes. It will be the "A" bowler's responsibility to record all the scores. It will be the responsibility of each bowler to verify that his/her score is recorded correctly. It will be the responsibility of the last bowler to finish on the pair to bring the scoresheet to the tournament desk after each game so that scores can be tabulated.

2. To qualify for the Championship Tournament, a bowler must participate in at least 7 of the 22 scheduled events.

3. Due to the above, points will be awarded in each division for a Bowler of the Year Award as follows:

10- for just showing up to bowl
10- for each event you come to more than the 7 to qualify for the Championship
5- for being high qualifier after 4/6 games
15- for 1st place
10- for 2nd place
7- for 3rd place
5- for 4th place
3- for 5th place
and 1- for every bowler you finish ahead of
