JR GOLD UPDATE
Following is an e-mail I received this afternoon...should make a lot of you quite happy!
Junior Gold Qualifier Coordinators:
For the 2008-2009 Junior Gold season, we have made important changes to the requirement for Sport Bowling certification and to the membership program.
In review of the 2008-2009 Junior Gold Championships qualifier regulations, the requirement that all competition be conducted in certified USBC Sport Bowling leagues and tournaments has been reconsidered. While USBC does highly encourage the use of Sport Bowling lane conditions, it is understood that we do not want to penalize the athletes and limit their access to Junior Gold qualifying events in the event that this standard is not met. As a result, USBC will not require Sport Bowling certification for Junior Gold qualifying events.
Sport Bowling lane conditions are now the standard for high-level tournament bowling, and you should utilize this program for your Junior Gold Championships qualifying leagues and tournaments. Whenever possible, the use of Sport Bowling lane conditions is highly recommended in order to better prepare your bowlers for the Junior Gold Championships and to reward higher skilled players participating in the event.
Many of you have already been involved with Sport Bowling leagues and tournaments and are familiar with the simple procedures for making your event Sport Bowling compliant. For those who are not, I have included the steps for making your event a successful Sport Bowling certified league/tournament.
If you have any questions regarding the Sport certification for your league or tournament, please contact the USBC Sport Bowling team at 800-514-2695, ext. 3177 or e-mail them at sportbowling@bowl.com.
Starting August 1, 2008, the Junior Gold membership program will provide a consistent season to all other USBC membership products by expiring July 31st. All current Junior Gold memberships are good for one year from the date of purchase, and these members will receive their entire year of membership. After August 1, 2008, a membership purchase or renewal would be good through July 31st. This change will eliminate a lot of confusion with Junior Gold membership expiration making it easier for the athletes purchasing the membership product and for coordinators selling and monitoring the membership at Junior Gold qualifying events.
I thank you for all your assistance with the USBC Junior Gold Championships qualifying events and wish you all the best. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Brian Graham
