JBT-NeJST Double Header Weekend

Norwich Bowling Center was the hub of the JBT-NeJST Doubleheader weekend. The JBT tournament took place Saturday. Any bowler in the JBT tournament was given a $5 discount from their entry into the NeJST tournament on Sunday. Twenty bowlers took advantage of their discount.

Chris Larson, a former JBT bowler and owner of the center's pro shop, dressed the lanes for us with the pattern used at the Masters. It was indeed a challenge for our bowlers, only two managed to qualify with averages of 200 - Kyle Rasmussen (CT) and Ali Dihmes (CT).

In the Collegiate Boys Division (ages 18-21) step-ladder Josh Grabiec (CT), a bowler for Western New England College, defeated Tim Brown (CT) 212-195 and Jonathan Kalbfus (NY) 212-184. Then he sqeaked by Ryan Evans (MA) 174-173 only to be defeated for the gold medal by Ali Dihmes 193-211.

Girls Division (ages 15-21): Missy Collins (CT) def. Vera Wisniewski (CT) 169-154
Cindy Locke (CT) def. Missy Collins 149-134
Caitlin McCaw (CT) def. Cindy Locke 154-104
for the gold Caitlin McCaw def. Alexandra Kiesman 216-172

In the Junior Boys Division (ages 12-14) Creshon Morrison (CT) climbed the ladder defeating Josh Regnier (CT) 175-173, Stephen Rogers (NY) 206-137, and Darrin Borges 153-149. In the medal match Chris Dziengiel (NY) stopped Creshon's progression 172-131.

Junior Girls Division: LaShey Sebree (CT) def. Jessica Evans (MA) 123-117
Brittany Reid (CT) def. LaShey 140-135
Nicole Trudell (RI) def Brittany 152-107
Nicole def. Tori Whetstone (RI) 172-159 for the gold medal

Due to the size of the Major Boys Division (ages 15-17), eight bowlers advanced. Those qualifying 5th thru 8th bowled a one game match with the victor getting the chance to continue up the step-ladder. Steve Stahursky (CT) was the victor. He then defeated Shane Fleury (VT) 184-177. Cody Daniels (NY) def. Steve 209-170, and Ryan Graywacz (CT) 182-167, and Kyle Rasmussen (CT) 200-170 to win his first NeJST gold.

In the Prep Division (ages 11 and under) Nick Sauve (MA) defeated Tyler Bartee 170-140 only to be def. in turn by Cory Bellisle (CT) 201-195. Cory then defeated Jadee Scott-Jones 186-177 and Ross Whitehead (NY) 178-131 to win the gold in his first NeJST outing.

The Northeast Junior Scratch Tour held their 15th tournament of the current season at Dover Bowling Center, Dover, NH. This was our first stop at the center. The management was terrific. They had agreed to give us a sport shot. And they were very accomodating. Unfortunately the turn out wasn't as good as we had hoped. In adding additional tournaments in VT and NH this year, we had hoped to encourage additional participation by bowlers from those states. There were only two (2) New Hamphire bowlers competing in this event. We also had bowlers from MA, NY, and CT. With that being said...

Ryan Evans (MA) won the Collegiate Boys gold medal. Ali Dihmes (CT) won silver. Russell Hagan (NH) won bronze.

Anthony Swenson (MA) won the Prep gold. Silver went to Nicholas Sauve (MA). Bronze to Jackie Evans (MA).

David Rice (VT), with a nice 1,338 (the high qualifying series of the day), finished first in the Major Boys Division. Placing second was Jason Brunelle (MA). And placing third, in his first NeJST, was Mike Fecteau (NH).

Bowling unopposed were Caitlin McCaw (CT) in the Girls Division, Jeremy Janusz (NY) in the Junior Boys Division, and Jessica Evans (MA) in the Junior Girls Division.

S. WINDSOR 10-PIN TOURNAMENT

January 13th found us at S. Windsor Ten-Pin, S. Windsor, CT. They gave us a relatively hard lane condition. 74 bowlers competed in the six divisions. The high qualifying series for the day, 1189, was rolled by Ryan Evans. The high game of 256 was thrown by David Rice.

Five bowlers advanced to the Jr Gold National Championship to be held in Detroit in July:
Chris Michael (CT), Steve Stahursky (CT), Rosanne Jansen (NY), Matt Peter (MA), and Alan Ip (NY). We have two Jr Gold spots left which will be available at our May 11th tournament.

Gazmine Mason (l - RI) won the gold medal in the Prep Division. Tyler Bartee (r - CT) won the silver medal

Jadee Scott-Jones (RI) placed third, winning the bronze medal.

David Rice (VT) led the Major Boys Division during qualifying and held first place and the gold medal.

Chris Colella (MA) climbed the ladder from his 6th qualifying position to finish 2nd. Steve Stahursky (CT) was third.

Joshua Regnier (l - CT) won the Junior Boys Divsion. Stephen Rogers (r - NY) finished in second place.

Cameron Lawson (VT) placed third.

Nicole Trudell (l) climbed the step-ladder to garner the gold in the Junior Girls Division. Tori Whetstone (r), recently back in action after surgery, finished second. Both are Rhode Islanders.

The Jansen sisters, Rosanne (l) and Tori (r), had a good day. They placed third in their respective divisions (Girls and Junior Girls) and decided they needed a bit more togetherness.

Vera Wisniewski (l) did a really nice job of climbing the Girl's Division step-ladder from her 4th qualifying position to defeat Caitlin McCaw (r) for the Division gold. Both girls are from CT.

Ryan Evans (MA) led the qualifying for the Collegiate Boys Division and clinched the gold medal by defeating Alexander Raedel (MA) in match-play.

Jonathan Kalbfus (NY) finished with the bronze medal.
