NeJST at Townline Ten-Pin 1/21/07

Our 12th tournament was held January 21st at Townline Ten-Pin, Malden, MA. 63 entrants averaged 173.

High series, 1311, was rolled by Jim Bosse (CT).

A perfect 300 was thrown by Gian Papa (RI), pictured to the left.

Eleven entrants in the Collegiate Boys Division averaged 185. Tony Bennett (MA) defeated Jim Bosse (CT) in the final match for the gold medal.

The Girls Division had six entrants who averaged 180. Jenn Boisselle (MA) averaged 200 and defeated Alexandra Kiesman (MA) for the win.

In the Junior Boys Division 14 bowlers averaged 173. Jalen Scott-Jones (RI) defeated Cameron Lawson for the top spot.

Four bowlers in the Junior Girls Division averaged 167. Amanda Labossiere (MA) defeated Kamariah Jackman (CT) for the gold.

19 entrants in the Major Boys Division averaged 182. David Lewis (RI) averaged 203 for the day and defeated Steve Stahursky (CT) for first.

The Prep Division again had a great turnout with 9 bowlers who averaged 137. Jose Santana (RI) defeated Vernon Billington (CT) for the gold medal.

Amanda Labossiere and Steve Stahursky advanced to the USBC Junior Gold Championship next June in New York.

Hoe Bowl Mardi Bob 1/14/07

The NeJST had the 11th tournament of the season at Mardi Bob in Poughkeepsie, NY. Mardi Bob management was wonderful, giving our bowlers their most difficult lane pattern thus far - a 40 foot, gutter to gutter, flat shot. With 67 entries the field average was 156.

Six entrants in the Collegiate Boys Division averaged 181. Jim Bosse (CT) averaged 196. Dan Quesnell (NY) had the high qualifying series with 1190. Jim defeated Dan in step-ladder 173-164 to win the gold.

The Girls Division had 9 entrants averaging 164. Caitlin McCaw (CT) had the high qualifying game of 246 and high average in her division with 182. Caitlin defeated Leigh Pratt (NY) 164-161 for first place.

15 entrants in the Junior Boys Division averaged 154. Teddy Bickert (NY) was high qualifier in this division with a 184 average. He fell to Chris Pruner (NY) who climbed the ladder from 6th place to garner the gold.

The Junior Girls Division had 4 entrants averaging 132. Kamariah Jackman (CT), who leads the Division MVP rankings, had a 160 average for the day, but was defeated in the final match by Liz Pratt (NY).

The Major Boys as usual was the largest Division of the event with 25 entrants who averaged 163. Alex Weglarz (NY) defeated Ryan Evans (MA) in the final match to win the gold, with an average of 192 on the day.

Eight entrants in the Prep Division averaged 124. High qualifier Corrado Marone (NY) defeated Tommy Tkacz (CT) to win his first gold medal of the season.

Advancing to the USBC Jr Gold Championship in Buffalo next July were Stephanie Brockway (NY), Kyle Rasmussen (CT), Jeremy Lavoie (CT), and Charles Bonis (NY).

Litchco's Hot Shot of the Week

This winner of Litchco's Hot Shot of the Week for the S. Windsor Ten-Pin tournament is Brittany Reid. Brittany is from Enfield, CT and is bowling in the Junior Girls Division. Over five (5) tournaments on both house and sport conditions, she had established a 124.5 average. On Ten-Pin's tough condition she managed a very respectable 140 for the day. 15.5 pins over average!

RESULTS FROM S. WINDSOR TEN-PIN

We have been having a fine year. Over the past four events we have had an average of 63 entries per tournament. This week was a tough shot. Only two bowlers averaged 200 for the day, Rebekah Diers and Jimmy Stenson, both of Kingston, NY.

Christopher Michael won the Jr. Gold Qualifier and will advance the the National Tournament in Buffalo, NY, next June.

Leigh Pratt won her spot in next June's BEST Tournament in Maple Shade, NJ.



Prep Division: Two Connecticut boys received the medals in this division. Tyler Dante Bartee (l) received the silver and Tommy Tkacz (r) the gold.




Jr. Boys Division: Nick Jenson (CT) [r] climbed most of the ladder to garner the gold. Chris Colella (MA) [l] finished with the silver medal.





Jr Girls Division: Kamariah Jackman (CT) [r] did a very nice job climbing the whole ladder to defeat divisional high qualifier Amanda Labossiere (MA) [l] for the gold.





Collegiate Boys: Jimmy Stenson (NY) [l] was high qualifier for the division with a very nice 1249 series but fell to Tony Bennett (MA) [r] in the final step-ladder match.





Major Boys: These two CT boys endured a field of 23 bowlers for the day. In the final match Kyle Rasmussen [r] won the gold leaving Christopher Michael [l] with the silver.






Girls Division: Rebekah Diers had the highest series for the day with a 1282. The final match was really close but Rebekah managed to edge out Leigh Pratt for the gold 203 - 200.

North Bowl this Sunday

This will be our first tournament at North Bowl. It will most likely be our last.

I spoke with the manager this morning. He insisted that we never discussed lane conditions (not true) and he informed me that, not only is it not in "his best interest" to put out a sport shot for us, that he does not intend to re-oil for us after his morning leagues. Sorry guys.

Results from Auburn...

70 bowlers competed on November 12th. 49 boys averaged 171.58 . 21 girls averaged 162.79. This was a field average of 168.95. Six bowlers averaged over 200 during qualifying.

The Prep Division fielded 11 bowlers who averaged 134.5. The high game of 189 and high series of 1012 were rolled by Jadee Scott-Jones (RI). However, Jose Santana (RI) defeated her in step-ladder to take the gold medal. Gazmine Mason (RI) won the bronze medal.

The Major Boys Division fielded 25 bowlers who averaged 174.8. Shane Reid (CT) rolled the high game of 268. David Lewis (RI) and Marcus Erickson (MA) both averaged over 200 for the 6 qualifying games with series of 1220 and 1216, respectively. Marcus garnered the gold medal. David won the silver. And Matt Peter (MA) finished with the bronze medal.

The Jr Girls Division fielded 8 bowlers who averaged 150.2. Amanda Labossiere (MA) had a 202 game and Nicole Trudell (RI) a 1093 series to lead the division. Step-ladder results were gold to Amanda, silver to Nicole, and bronze to Kamariah Jackman (CT).

9 bowlers comprized the Jr Boys Division averaging 177.9. Justin Avylla (MA) was high qualifier with a 245 game and 1187 series. He was defeated in step-ladder by Chris Colella (MA) for the gold medal. Darrin Borges (MA) received the bronze medal.

The Girls Division saw 8 competitors who averaged 182.6 during qualifying. Deanna Outland (RI) rolled the high game of 267. Leigh Pratt led the division with a 1249 series. However, Brittany Garcia (NH) steamrolled over everyone on her way up the ladder rolling consecutive games of 212, 222, 242, and 213 wresting the gold medal from Leigh. Amie Tomblin (NH) finished with the bronze medal.

The Collegiate Boys Division had 9 entries whose qualifying average was 190.3. Rai Doblmeier (RI) threw the 2nd 300 game in NeJST history. Tony Bennett (MA) lead the division with the day's high series of 1317. Medalists were Jim Bosse (CT) gold, Tony silver, and Rai bronze.

The Mystery Score Game was instituted. The computer picks a random score between 100 and 225. Entry to the game is $3 ($1 goes to the general scholarship fund - $2 goes to the game jackpot). If the Mystery Score is hit during the 4th qualifying game, the entire jackpot is won. If the score is hit during any other qualifying game, one-half the jackpot is awarded as scholarship and the other half is carried forward to the next tournaments. Amie Tomblin won half the beginning jackpot .

USBC CHANGES YOUTH ELIGIBILITY RULES!!!

The United States Bowling Congress Board of Directors has approved the modification of Youth Membership Eligibility Rule 400, effective immediately, to expand the awards deemed acceptable under the terms of USBC Youth membership. In addition to previously allowed symbolic awards, USBC Youth members are now eligible to be awarded bowling equipment, gift certificates, apparel and other merchandise prizes with a total value not greater than $500 in any one event, excluding scholarships.

The modifications also allow for USBC Youth members to compete in singles competition where cash and/or bonds are awarded, as well as merchandise prizes exceeding $500 in total in any one event, but must waive rights to these awards by signing and completing the USBC Prize Waiver form prior to their participation in that competition.

Acceptance of awards of cash or bonds of any amount or any merchandise prizes with a total value higher than $500 per event remain prohibited for youth members under USBC's revised Rule 400. Violations of the terms of Rule 400 could result in the loss or suspension of youth membership.

There also remains no limit on the value of scholarships that can be awarded in youth competition. The scholarship funds from USBC certified events and leagues will continue to be required to be deposited with USBC's SMART program. USBC Youth members may be awarded scholarships from singles competition in which cash and/or bonds are awarded.

"The USBC Board determined that the former Rule 400 placed unnecessary restrictions on everyone associated with USBC Youth membership and concluded the best course of action to alleviate this issue was to modify Rule 400 effective immediately," USBC President Michael Carroll said.

The previous version of Rule 400 intended to protect the current and future interscholastic sports eligibility of USBC Youth members through the most restrictive interpretations and limitations. The USBC Board concluded that placing these restrictions on all USBC Youth members was unnecessary due to the lack of uniform eligibility standards for interscholastic sports nationally.

"The new structure of USBC allows for addressing of significant issues to be handled in an expedited manner," said USBC Chief Executive Officer Roger Dalkin. "The previous version of Rule 400 placed undue and unintended restrictions on USBC Youth members, league and association coordinators and proprietors. The USBC Board modified Rule 400 to address these restrictions and expand acceptable awards that promote and enhance the participation in youth bowling."

The USBC Board concluded that compliance with local/state interscholastic eligibility rules and policies is the responsibility of the individual member and his/her legal guardian. However, USBC will continue to educate USBC Youth members and their legal guardians that competing in USBC certified competitions and acceptance of some awards now acceptable under Rule 400 could jeopardize individual member's interscholastic sports amateur eligibility.

These changes do not affect the USBC Youth High Score Awards program.

"USBC's Youth membership program, certified tournaments and leagues, as well as USBC's dedication to the growth of high school and collegiate bowling, offer youth of all ages many choices to be active in the sport of bowling," said Mitch Mitchell, chairman of the USBC Youth Committee.

HOW DID THEY GET THIS POWER????

Will the delegates have the opportunity to vote to approve or reject this action at the next USBC Annual Meeting?

No. In accordance with Article IV, Section E, Item 12, the USBC Youth rules are under the control of the USBC Board and not the delegates.

Now they have complete control over the millions in scholarship money and no one can take it away from them.

Our third event of the year at Lang’s Lanes, Cranston, RI saw a field of 74 bowlers. This was the highest scoring lane condition the bowlers have tackled.

We're off to a Great Start

Our second season is off to a great start. Our first event, on a sport condition , September 10th at AMF Chicopee Lanes, Chicopee, MA saw 52 entrants from all the states in the Northeast and New Jersey. Divisional step-ladder results were as follows:

Collegiate Boys: Stephen Hardy Jr. (NH) defeated Randy Hagemoser (RI) 174-151, then Jim Bosse (CT) def Stephen Hardy 219-138, then Chris Page (RI) in a 9th & 10th frame roll-off after a 181-181 tie, Danny Khuu (MA) def Jim Bosse 214-209 to garner the gold medal.

Girls: Brittany Garcia (NH) def Alley Kiesman (MA) 160-156, then Stephanie Howard (CT) 205-161, then Amie Tomblin (NH) 222-154. Leigh Pratt (NY) stopped Brittany’s climb up the ladder with a 181-167 win for the gold medal.

Junior Boys: Darrin Borges (MA) def Justin Avylla (MA) 178-157, Nick Jensen (CT) def Borges 191-157, Chris Colella (MA) def Jensen 163-138 and Ryan Ventillo (NY) 172-171 for the division win.

Junior Girls: Brittany Reid (CT) def Carly Cross (NY) 136-112 and Jessica Evans (MA) 92-88 to be defeated by Ashley Reid 116-128 for the gold.

Major Boys: With 20 in the division 8 qualified for the finals. Tim Steward (NY), Akeem Campbell (CT), Ryan Evans (MA), and Alex Weglarz (NY) rolled a one game match with the winner to advance to meet 4th place qualifier Michael Ventillo (NY). Ryan def Ventillo 186-156. Dave Rice (VT) then def Evans 156-154, Shane Reid (CT) 185-140, and Greg Andrews (MA) 254-192 for 1st place.

Prep Division was won by Tommy Tkacz (CT) with Vernon Billington (CT) placing 2nd.

The Junior Gold qualifier saw Shane Reid  and Leigh Pratt winning their spots in the Jr. Gold National Championship next July in Buffalo, NY.

The second tournament, September 17th at Lores Lanes, New Milford, CT presented the bowlers with a 38 foot flat oil pattern.

MVP & BOWLER OF YEAR AWARDS

I have received a sponsorship committment for year end scholarship awards - Divisional Most Valuable Player (MVP) and an overall Bowler of the Year.

Points will be awarded as follows: (unless I change my mind in a day or two)
1. Each participant will receive 10 points for entering a tournament.
2. Points will be awarded based on the bowlers position at the end of qualifying.
For Divisions with 5 to 14 entries: 1st - 10, 2nd - 7, 3rd - 5, 4th - 3, and 5th - 2.
For Divisions with 15 to 25 entries: 1st - 20, 2nd - 16, 3rd - 13, 4th - 10, 5th - 7, 6th - 5, 7th - 3, and 8th - 2.
For Divisions with more than 25: 1st - 28, 2nd - 24, 3rd - 20, 4th - 16, 5th - 13, 6th - 10, 7th - 7, 8th - 5, 9th - 3, and 10th - 2.

4. Every 10th tournament entered will be worth double points.

The Collegiate Boys, Girls, Major Boys, and Junior Boys Divisions MVP awards will be $125 for 1st, $75 for 2nd, and $50 for 3rd.

Junior Girls and Prep Divisions winners will receive $100.

The bowler with the most points overall, regardless of division, will be awarded the Bowler of the Year Award and $300.

Jr Gold Qualifiers

As most of you are already aware, we have received certification for Jr Gold Qualifiers for the up-coming season. The schedule, rules, and entry blanks can be obtained on our message board. (See link to the left.) Unlike our scholarship tournaments, these qualifiers request pre-payment at least a week in advance of the tournament.
